Paul Potts : One Chance
One Chance is the debut album from Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts. It was certified Gold in the UK in it’s first week of going on sale, selling a staggering 130,000 copies. Limited two disc (CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) edition of his 2007 debut album now includes a bonus DVD that contains Taking One Chance - Documentary, 'Nessun Dorma' (Live Performance) and promo videos for 'O Holy Night', 'Everybody Hurts' and 'Time To Say Goodbye'. The album features the original 10 tracks. This is the debut album from the winner of the first season of Britain s Got Talent. Potts' winning performance of Puccini's 'Nessun Dorma' is now one of the most watched clips in You Tube's history (10 million+). The album includes that track as well as the equally captivating 'Time To Say Goodbye', a Spanish version of 'My Way' and Italian version of REM's 'Everybody Hurts'. Sony BMG. One Chance’s arrangements, of course, are uniformly tasteful and unambitious. The London Symphony Orchestra brings a bit of sweeping melodrama – and a much-needed injection of classical gravitas, but there’s nothing here to break the sense of tasteful calm.
This album is a true classic and has a little bit of everything from the classic opera song Nessun Dorma to Broadway and even a version of Silent Night. This album will appeal to a wide audience and has sold multi-million copies around the world. Its tracklisting is designed to appeal to mums pushing their trolleys around Tesco's – there’s an Italian-language opera version of ‘Everybody Hurts’, a cover of Il Divo’s cover of ‘You Raise Me Up’, and a Granny-pleasing trundle through Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Music Of The Night’. Naturally, ‘Nessun Dorma’, the Puccini tearjearker that gave Potts the vehicle to beat a gap-toothed six-year-old warbler and a stage school brat who dressed up Mary Poppins to win the ITV talent hunt, opens the album.
